Common Home Theater Questions

If nothing powers on:

  1. Confirm the main power conditioner is on.
  2. Check for tripped breakers.
  3. Verify the control system or remote has power.
  4. Confirm outlet power at the rack location.

Many theater systems are connected to surge protectors or IP-controlled power units. If the system recently experienced a power outage, a full reboot may be required.

If video appears but audio does not:

  • Confirm the receiver is on the correct input.
  • Check that the volume is not muted.
  • Verify speaker wires are connected securely.
  • Ensure the source device audio format is compatible (Dolby, PCM, etc.).

If using streaming devices, restart the source device and receiver.

Common causes include:

  • Incorrect input selected
  • HDMI cable disconnection
  • Source device powered off
  • Projector lamp or laser error

Try switching inputs and rebooting the source device. If the projector displays an error indicator, professional service may be required.

If some speakers are silent:

  • Confirm speaker zones are enabled in the receiver settings.
  • Check if the content is true surround sound or stereo.
  • Reboot the AV receiver.

If using Dolby Atmos, confirm the source content supports it.

If the system does not respond to commands:

  1. Check remote battery levels.
  2. Confirm the smart home controller is online.
  3. Reboot the control processor.
  4. Verify network connectivity.

Many modern theaters rely on network-based control systems.

Audio delay issues can result from:

  • Streaming source latency
  • Receiver processing settings
  • HDMI handshake errors

Try rebooting the source device and receiver. Some receivers allow manual audio delay adjustments.

If you see “No Signal”:

  • Confirm the source device is powered on.
  • Verify the correct HDMI input is selected.
  • Check for loose HDMI cables.
  • Restart the video source and display.

Long HDMI runs or 4K HDR signals may require system recalibration.

After power interruptions:

  1. Reboot modem and router first.
  2. Wait for internet to fully restore.
  3. Power on the AV receiver.
  4. Then power on source devices.

Systems must boot in proper sequence.

Possible causes:

  • Lamp nearing end of life
  • HDR settings mismatch
  • Incorrect picture mode
  • Dirty lens or filter

Laser projectors may require recalibration rather than lamp replacement.

Schedule professional service if:

  • Projector displays warning indicators
  • Multiple speakers are non-functional
  • Receiver frequently shuts down
  • HDMI handshake issues persist
  • System fails after repeated reboots

Professional diagnostics can prevent further equipment damage.

Custom home theaters are engineered systems. Routine maintenance improves:
