Custom Home Theater Case Study
Fully Engineered 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos Cinema – Richfield, Ohio
In Richfield, Ohio, Xtend Technologies was commissioned to design and build a dedicated home theater from blueprint to final calibration. The objective was clear: create a purpose-built cinematic environment that delivers immersive 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos performance while minimizing sound transfer to adjacent living spaces.
This was not a media room retrofit. This was a ground-up engineered theater.
Built for Performance — and Containment
Before equipment installation began, the room itself was engineered for acoustic control.
To reduce sound transmission and improve interior performance, the theater incorporated:
- Kinetics IsoMax drywall isolation clips
- Resilient wall strips and ceiling perimeter tape
- Constrained-layer damping compound
Acoustical sealant throughout wall assemblies- UL-rated IsoBacker pads for outlet isolation
This decoupled wall and ceiling assembly significantly reduces vibration transfer while preserving interior dynamics.
The result:
High-impact bass inside the room.
Minimal disruption outside it.
Precision-Tuned Interior Acoustics
Xtend designed, measured, and installed a complete custom acoustical panel system using Kinetics HardSide 1” acoustical panels, wrapped in Guilford FR701 fabric.
Panels were strategically positioned to:
- Control early reflections
- Improve dialogue intelligibility
- Tighten mid-bass response
- Reduce flutter echo
- Maintain aesthetic uniformity
Hidden speaker cutouts behind fabric maintain clean visual lines while preserving acoustic transparency.
The room was not treated decoratively.
It was treated scientifically.
A 145” Cinematic Presentation
The visual centerpiece is a 145-inch acoustically transparent projection screen, allowing the front LCR speakers to sit directly behind the image plane for true cinema alignment.
The Dragonfly Ultra AcoustiWeave material ensures:
- 4K compatibility
- Crisp image detail
- Proper speaker integration
- Seamless front-stage performance
Dialog originates from the screen — exactly where it should.
Native 4K Laser Projection
Illuminating the screen is the Sony VPL-XW5000ES Native 4K HDR laser projector, delivering:
- True 4K resolution
- 2,000 lumens of brightness
- Wide DCI-P3 color coverage
- Advanced HDR processing
- Long-life laser light source
The result is vibrant, cinematic imagery with exceptional black levels and color fidelity.
Precision-Engineered Surround System
The theater was configured as a 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos system using premium Focal 300 Series in-wall and in-ceiling loudspeakers.
Front Stage:
- Three Focal 300 IWLCR6 speakers behind the screen
Surround & Height Channels:
- Focal 300 IW6 and 300 ICW8 speakers
Low-Frequency Foundation:
- SVS 3000 In-Wall Dual Subwoofer System with 800-watt DSP amplifier
Dual in-wall subwoofers provide:
- Even bass distribution
- Greater dynamic impact
- Reduced localization
- Architectural concealment
Processing is handled by the Sony STR-AZ5000ES 11.2-channel ES receiver, delivering object-based Atmos decoding and room calibration.
The soundstage is enveloping, precise, and immersive — with overhead dimensionality that fully engages the listener.
Professional Rack & Infrastructure
All equipment is housed in a 35U Strong rack system with:
- Active cooling
- Surge protection
- Structured cable management
- Dedicated wiring infrastructure
Pre-wire included 11-channel speaker runs, Cat6 data lines, and in-wall electrical routing to ensure clean execution and long-term serviceability.
Two Rows of Power Theater Seating
Palliser Soundtrack Collection
To complete the experience, Xtend installed two rows of Palliser Soundtrack power reclining theater seating, upholstered in Grade 2000 leather.
Features include:
- Power recline
- Power headrests
- High-resiliency foam seating
- Integrated storage arms
- Tray tables
- Section connectors for alignment
The seating was positioned for proper sightlines and optimal audio imaging across both rows.
Comfort was engineered just as carefully as acoustics.
